The questions haunted Lizzy for days. She still didn’t have an answer when her next date with Aaron came around.

Jenny sat on Lizzy’s bed as she wandered through the room to get dressed. Aaron said to dress sexy casual. Lizzy had no idea what that meant but she was trying. “How about this?” she asked Jenny, walking out in her third outfit of the night.

“Yeah, I think that one works. How cool is it that Aaron is getting so into all this? I love that he’s surprising you with dates. It’s so romantic,” Jenny gushed.

“Uh huh.”

“Aren’t you excited?”

Lizzy sighed heavily, “I’m just confused. I feel like every day I get more and more confused about what I want.”

“So have you thought about what you want?” Jenny asked, digging through Lizzy’s jewelry box for something to match her outfit.

“All the time. The problem is I’m not getting a clear idea. Part of me loves being home, but if things don’t work out with Aaron then that won’t be an option. One of my friends was saying the other day that we always have a choice and that everything that happens in our lives is what we choose. He said if we’re not happy we need to change something.”

“He? He, who?” Jenny asked, pausing in her examination of Lizzy’s jewelry box.

“Hmm?”

“I said, ‘He, who?’ Where did you meet this guy?”

“He’s a dad in Mikey’s Rolly Pollies class. He’s just someone I go out for coffee with after class.”

“Does Aaron know you’re going out for coffee with another man every week?”

“It’s not like that. Another mom goes with us. We all just go out and talk and let our kids snack while we talk.”

“If it’s not a big deal then why wouldn’t you tell Aaron?” Jenny asked with her eyebrows raised.

“I don’t tell Aaron everything. You should understand that. You don’t tell Matt everything.”

“No, I don’t. But Matt is three hours away and we haven’t been married for eight years.”

“It’s not a big deal,” Lizzy insisted, anxiety pooling in her gut. She knew exactly why she wasn’t telling Aaron but she didn’t want to admit it to Jenny. “If it ever comes up I’ll tell him, but it just hasn’t come up.”

“Really? You talk about your day every night before bed, right?” Lizzy nodded. “And in a month it hasn’t come up that you have coffee with another man every week?”

“And another mom. It’s not like we’re meeting at a hotel and screwing in a pay-by-the-hour room. We’re having coffee and muffins with our kids.”

“Who pays?”

“Why does that matter?”

“Just answer the question.”

“Diego pays,” Lizzy admitted reluctantly. Jenny threw her arms up as though that explained everything. “What difference does it make?”

“You’re hiding it. If you paid then Aaron would see the charge and ask why you’re going to Tim Horton’s every week.”

“So what? I go because I have friends in class. It doesn’t matter that one of them is a dad.”

“Is he cute?”

Lizzy stopped dead in her tracks. She knew she couldn’t lie to her sister, but if she confessed how attractive Diego was it would be a disaster.
